Every Digital Product Triggers Change

12/03/2024 · 1 min read

Some time ago, I started thinking about a topic that I have always somehow considered to be part of my job as a designer of digital products, but have never really tackled explicitly: change management.

I'm going to start off with a steep thesis: every new digital product triggers a change. It is not possible not to do this. The change may be big or small, but it is there. In most cases, however, this change is not managed proactively but is rather allowed to happen.

But why do I think it is important that this change is also managed? In my opinion, it is important for the acceptance of the new product that the fears and hopes of potential users, the opportunities and risks associated with the product are actively recognised and supported. And that's what change management is all about: supporting people and organisations through change.
